The dot SE country-specific extension was set up in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration process was really restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were reserved. Individuals could book solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was mandatory, i.e. only Swedish individuals, firms and organizations could register a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized significantly and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.
